GB News hosts Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon struggled to keep a straight face as they were forced to issue an on-air apology after landing themselves in “serious trouble”.
During a segment celebrating Yorkshire Day, the Breakfast anchors expressed their “most sincere apology” after being threatened with the sack.
After attempting Yorkshire accents to introduce the segment, Stephen revealed live on-air that they had been messaged by GB News Editorial Director Michael Booker.
Stephen first of all read a message from GB News viewer Gary, who told Ellie she had the “worst Yorkshire accent ever”.
As Ellie defended her attempt, Stephen then revealed that they had been messaged by GB News management, saying: “Unfortunately, we are in some quite serious trouble.”
He explained to the viewers and Ellie: “Michael Booker, who is one of our very, very senior bosses here, said ‘as someone whose family is from Leeds, you and Ellie are now fired for those accents’.”
Stephen continued: “I said we’ll leave our passes on your desk, and he said, ‘unless there is a full onscreen apology’.”
Issuing their apology to both Michael and People’s Channel viewers, Ellie began: “Well, Michael Booker, this is for you.”

Stephen stated: “We apologise most sincerely for our very poor accents.”
Ellie then defended her accent further, revealing: “It’s actually just deep love and affection, and I also have family from Leeds.”
Stephen interjected Ellie’s defence of her accent, joking: “When you’re in a hole darling, stop digging.”
She then responded: “Sorry, we apologise. We need to stop doing the accents as well, because they’re not very good.”
Stephen then called for all regions of the UK to have special celebrations like Yorkshire, stating: “I love it though, we should have these celebrations for all regions of the UK and really mark it, because why not? There’s lots of great stuff.”
Ellie agreed, claiming that there should be an “Essex day”. She argued: “Essex should so have a day, and it would be fantastic. I’d go live and I’d do the programme from there.
“Maybe in Southend, we can work it out. Or Sugar Hut in Brentwood, I mean, there are options.”
Stephen then admitted: “I think I’d be too scared to come to Essex Day with you. Would that be a Prosecco and white high heels day or something?”
Ellie agreed: “It would be like a bottomless brunch at breakfast, It would be fantastic.”
